‘Beauty in Stone’ is a piece about the female body and notions of beauty, using source materials from Greek statues, renaissance art and live dancers.
Beauty in Stone is a cross between a live art and dance. The work looks at classical sculpture and fine art through the centuries to create a sculptural dance piece that celebrates and looks into how the female form is viewed in today’s Western society.
Five nude dancers become living statues and moving bodies, creating shapes and carving pathways through the space. They move in and out of characters, relationships and poses to a live musical score and text.
Beauty in Stone contains audio description as an integrated part of the performance. This makes the work more accessible to a wider range of audience members. At the same time, the audio description behaves in a unique ground-breaking way as an element of piece’s sound score.
Beauty in Stone shall be shown at RichMix on Thursday 18th Novemeber 2010 and watch this space as PrefaceMorn maybe touring Beauty in Stone around the South East/West in Summer 2011!
