Judith Mandel is a freelance dancer and teacher, who worked with PrefaceMorn as a dancer and co-assist director to Niall Cullen from Autumn 2009 to Spring 2011.

Judith completed her BA(Hons) in Dance at Chichester University with an exchange to York University, Toronto before continuing her study at Laban on their Dance Studies Diploma.
This training involved a range or contemporary styles, ballet and contact improvisation.
Before further education Judith studied with Anne Fraser focusing on ballet, modern jazz, tap and lyrical. She also was involved in Anne’s youth theatre group, and enjoyed singing and playing the cello.

Judith’s current interests are performing, teaching, Somaitcs/Body Work and dance for camera and she and continually attends CPD workshops in these areas. During her study and since graduating Judith has worked with artists and groups such as Líla Dance, Bedlam, The Dance Movement, H2 Dance, Katia Lom (Resolution!2010), Nocturn/4 Motion Dance Theatre and Nic Green. She is a founding member of Nutshell Contemporary Dance Company with Mari Frogner.

As a dancer Judith likes to challenge of her physicality and work from within. She very much enjoys taking a technical class but her work often comes from an emotional base or physical exploration, she works with what feels organic punctuated with moments of surprise.

Judith’s teaching style uses ideas from release and Cunningham as well as ideas informed by Somatics. She has been influenced by dance artists such as Cei Tomas, Nannette Kinkaid and Gill Clark. Her teaching explores her interest in the constant transference of weight in whole body movement, that moment before fall, working with the floor and power from the centre to shift through space.
